WHAT IS TeenSTAR?

TeenSTAR is a programme for teenagers aged 13-14 or 15-18 on mastering emotions, building relationships and understanding sexuality.

 

WHEN DID IT START?

TeenSTAR was launched by Dr Hanna Klaus in 1980.

 

IS TeenSTAR ONLY IN THE UK?

TeenSTAR UK is part of an international network now in 30 countries on 5 continents: one TeenSTAR programme worldwide!

 

HOW LONG IS THE PROGRAMME?

TeenSTAR takes place over a whole academic year to give teenagers time to develop.

 

WHO FACILITATES THE TeenSTAR PROGRAMME?

TeenSTAR facilitators are fully trained and DBS checked. Girls are with female facilitators, boys with male facilitators.

 

ARE PARENTS INVOLVED? 

The programme requires voluntary participation with written parental permission. It encourages parental involvement and respects the parent as primary educator.

HOW ARE TeenSTAR SESSIONS RUN?

TeenSTAR encourages active participation and involvement with discussions, debates, role-plays and hands-on games and activities. TeenSTAR is not like school, IS NOT SCHOOL!

 

WHAT OUTCOMES DOES THE TeenSTAR PROGRAMME HAVE FOR TEENAGERS?

TeenSTAR is transformative as it develops self-knowledge. As a result of taking part in the programme, teenagers become more confident and grow in assertiveness and maturity.
